We’ve had a sweet and yummy week as
we continue selling and scooping different flavours of ice cream in F1X. Aside from ice cream in a cone, we also sold ice lollies and
snowcones! The children learnt new ice cream flavours such as cookies and cream, blueberry and cherry. They also found out that there are many different toppings we can put on our ice cream to make it even more delicious such as marshmallows, nuts, sprinkles, wafer sticks,
and chocolate syrup. The children also found out that ice cream is sweet and
cold. Danny even pointed out that ice cream should be cold because if it is
hot, the ice cream will melt!
The children had a messy, but fun
time in the Investigation Area. Ms Christine prepared sticky strawberry jelly and
the children had a go at poking, mashing and scooping the jelly into bowls. The
children were very good at using their words to describe the jelly. They said: “It’s
cold!”, ”It’s sticky!”, “It’s wet!” and “The jelly is red.” We also made
snowcones out of Insta-Snow Powder, water and food colour. The children were
very good at taking turns in using the ice cream scoop. They scooped snowcones
into bowls, added food colour and shared it with their teachers and friends!
Every Wednesdsay, Mr Tue comes to
class with iPads that the children can play with. They have been completing
animal puzzles, tracing letters and colouring different transports. We have
also been playing with an app called ‘Ice Cream’ where the children can make
their own sundaes, ice cream cones, cotton candy and even drive the ice cream
truck! We have introduced the 5 minute sand timer to the children so they
understand that we take turns and that we patiently wait for our turn.
In the Maths area, we placed scoops
of ice cream according the number written on each cone. Most of our children can
already recognise different numbers and put the corresponding number of ice
cream scoops on top of the cone. Aside from counting, the children were
also able to identify the different ice cream flavours!
In the workshop area, the children did
bubble wrap painting with Ms Cheska. The children enjoyed the anticipation of
taking the bubble wrap off and were happy to see little circles on the paper.
The children described them as bubbles, dots and little circles! Most of them recognised it as dinosaur eggs whilst others said that they painted
rainbows, ice cream and a self-portait. The children were very good in
identifying colours and handling the paintbrushes!
They all had a wonderful time
in the splash pool as we played with boats and sponges! We are happy to see
that most of our children have developed their water confidence. They have been
using their arms and legs to swim and are showing increased confidence as they are beginning to put their heads in the water.
In the malleable area, the children
have been rolling and moulding soft pink playdough into ice cream mats. We continue to teach the children how to hold and handle scissors in the classroom.
They have been using our new plastic scissors to cut playdough into big and
tiny pieces.
We have been doing a lot of dancing and singing this week as our production is fast approaching. The children have been singing using their wonderful singing voices and dancing with beautiful smiles!
We have been singing our new ice cream songs all week:
5 Ice Cream Cones
(To the tune of Five Currant Buns)
Five ice cream cones
in the ice cream shop
Sweet and cold with
the cherry on the top
Along came (name)

*number then
decreases until there are no more ice cream cones*
Ten Scoops of Ice Cream
(To the tune of Ten Little People)

Seven, little eight,
