Newsletter 27.03.15

F1X children continue to learn about farm animals this week. Most of them spent a good amount of time playing in the role play area where they can pretend to feed the animals, tidy the barn and dress up as different farm animals. We've also read lots of stories about farm animals such as Cock-A-Moo-Moo, Mr Gumpy's Outing and On the Farm. The children have been particularly good in naming the animals and copying the sounds they make. We have also tried sequencing the story game and most of the children had a go at responding to questions and saying familiar lines from the story Cock-A-Moo-Moo. This week, we also focused on learning about numbers. We have been doing lots of counting at the moment during play time, circle time, singing and story sessions. Towards the end of the week, the children showed great interest in superheroes and dancing to different nursery music from around the world. What an amazing week we had! All the children deserve a good rest over the weekend :)

Newsletter 20.03.15

What a fun week we've had in F1 unit! The children are becoming more confident when exploring different learning areas in and out of the classroom. They have also been developing friendships and playing nicely with each other. Fantastic!

Focus songs this week:

Old Mc Donald

Old Mc Donald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O!
And on his farm he had a ______, E-I-E-I-O!
With a _______ here and a _______ there,
Here a _______, there a _______,
everywhere a ________!
Old Mc Donald had a farm, E-I-E-I-O!
(cow-Moo!, sheep-Baa!, duck-Quack!, horse-Neigh!, chicken-Cluck!, goat-Meh!)

BINGO
There was a farmer who had a dog and BINGO was his name-o!
B-I-N-G-O! B-I-N-G-O! B-I-N-G-O! And BINGO was his name-o!

LITTLE PETER RABBIT

Little PeterRabbit had a fly up on his nose!
Little Peter Rabbit had a fly up on his nose!
Little Peter Rabbit had a fly up on his nose,
So he flicked it and it flew away!

Clever, clever Peter Rabbit!
Clever, clever Peter Rabbit!
Clever, clever Peter Rabbit!
So he flipped it and it flew away!

Here are the highlights this week:

* Old Mc Donald has just opened another farm and we are very lucky to have it in our very own classroom! Our role-play is now set-up as a farm with all the happy animals making different sounds and busy children feeding the animals, cleaning the farm and even giving the animals their baths!

* We would like to welcome Nhu May and her family in our F1 unit. We are very happy to have Nhu May with us and we are looking forward to sharing wonderful moments with her this year!

* Last Tuesday, we had another fun visit from our friends from Animal Rescue and Care. They were with Dr Nghia, a very friendly vet who taught us how to treat animals at all times. They also brought along a dog named 'Ziggy' and 2 lovely white cats. Some of the children were very brave and volunteered to give the animals gentle strokes. Well done children!

* We made a pink play dough this week and we only used 3 ingredients. We used baby lotion, corn flour and food colour! It came out really soft and smells really good too!

* Thank you to all parents who met with us today and yesterday. We are very glad that we were able to share with you your child's progress in class!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Kind Regards;
Ms Crislet, Ms Precious and the F1 Team

Newsletter 13.03.15

It's been a really busy week! Here are the highlights:

On Monday, we continue to talk about pets and how to take care of them. The children have been playing with lots of resources in the different learning areas such as Vet clinic in the Role play area, animal counters in Maths area, popoids in the construction area--that they can use to build animal figures, playdough with animal cutters and fish and nets in our Investigation area. Most of the children have shown great interest in animals this week (pets and farm animals).

We've also read lots of new stories about pets and random animals such as 'Paula the Vet', 'Dear Zoo', 'I Don't Like Gloria!' and 'A Very Busy Spider'. The children have been particularly good at repeating vocabulary words, short phrases and sentences from each story.

Animal Rescue Centre (ARC) visited our class on Tuesday. The children learned about how to approach a new dog in preparation for another ARC visit next week. They are also learning to say "Can I touch your dog?" Most of the children showed great confidence and even volunteered to give the soft toy dog a gentle stroke.

On Wednesday, the children busied themselves painting on canvasses. These paintings will be used to make our Fundino playground more beautiful. The children enjoyed using different shades of the colours red, yellow, blue and green.

Thank you for supporting us with the 'Show and Tell Bag'.  It's great to see so many children sharing their special toys and objects from home with their friends at school.

A reminder that every Monday we share weekend news.  Please could you help support the children to do this by talking to them about what they did over the weekend on Sundays.

Have a lovely weekend,
Ms Precious and Ms Crislet

Newsletter 06.03.15

First of all, we would like to welcome Henry and his family in our F1X family! Henry joined in last Monday and we are looking forward to having great times with him in F1!

As EYFS' community partner, we had a visit from Ms Koto, an education officer from Animal Rescue and Care. She talked to us about how we should take care of our pets. This visit was an introduction and a preparation before having 2 more visits from a vet and a couple of ARC's pets.

This week's focus theme is pet animals. We are encouraging all the children to take care of our class' pets (2 dogs, a cat and 2 rabbits stuffed toys in our vet role-play). The children are taking turns in being a vet and looking at the 'sick' animals. They use the stethoscope, the syringes, bandages and more!

We have also been playing with fish, fishing nets, boats and water in the Tuff spot.

In our workshop area, we have been making paper plate animals. We are done with the chicks and we have just started making our dog paperplates! They will soon be on display on our classroom windows.

For Literacy, we are encouraging all the children to draw on their mark making books and describe them to us. We have been observing how the children hold pens and noting down what descriptions they gave about their drawings. It is amazing how most of them are already able to ascribe meanings to what they have drawn. Your child's mark making books will be sent home one weekend.

It was Mako and Kazuki's turn in Show and Tell this week. Mako shared her ballet costume and Kazuki shared his toy microphone. Thank you Mako and Kazuki for sharing them with us!

In the Soft Play Room, the children have been showing their creativity in making up their own games. They have been playing running race, counting at the same time from 1-10 and then running from one end of the soft play room to the other. They have also been playing ring games and singing songs.

Well done children for another great week in F1! Fantastic!

NOTICES:

Late slip: Please do not forget to secure a late slip from the office if your child comes in late. School starts at 8am. We understand that there are a number of reasons why your child may come in late on occasions but we encourage everybody to come in on time regularly. This helps set a routine for your child and for him/her to fully explore all learning areas in the morning.

Splash Pool Sessions: As previously mentioned, please provide a medical note if your child will not join our splash pool sessions.

Thank you very much!

Have a great weekend!

Kind Regards;
Ms Crislet, Ms Precious and the F1 Team
