Let's Fly in F1's Hot Air Balloon!

This week, we have started a new theme which is Air Transport. The children have been doing an array of activities about air transport such as aeroplanes and hot air balloons.

In the mark-making area, we have been encouraging the children to see the hidden transport through a tray of salt by using the brushes. This activity helps in developing children's fine motor and investigation skills.

In the malleable area, Ms Christine made a 'space' play dough. The children had fun exploring its soft and stretchy texture.

In the investigation area, we have put sand, gray tempera paint and glitter to have a moon surface-like texture. The children have been digging and using a variety of resources from the continuous provision.

In the role-play area, we have two hot air balloons that take us up, up, up in the sky! The children loved going in and pretending to fly around in it.

On the carpet, the children have been playing with small-world air transport, aeroplane duplo, soft blocks and stickle bricks. Some have been making aeroplanes, towers, rockets and houses.

In the Mathematics area, we have been counting gems and completing inset puzzles.

In the workshop area, we have used the transport stampers and made a collage of colourful transports! We have also coloured a big hot air balloon picture and we loved working together!

This week, Ms Precious taught us a new song, '10 Little Aeroplanes Flying High'. We fly like aeroplanes whilst singing this song! We also sang '5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer'.

A big well done to all the children this week! We are very impressed at how they have been using the new vocabulary we have and the interest they are showing on this theme.

NOTICES:

* For show and tell, can we ask you to have your child bring in his/her favourite book about air transport (rocket, aeroplane, spaceship, hot air balloon etc) on Monday.

* Just a reminder that we expect ALL children to swim regularly. Please bring your child's swimming kit (towel and swimsuit, both labeled with your child's name) every Tuesday and Thursday. Any child who cannot swim on our splash pool session days must show a medical certificate indicating that the child is not fit to swim.

Thank you very much!

Have a great weekend!

Kind Regards;
Ms Crislet, Ms Precious and the F1 Team

Pirates Ahoy!

F1X children engaged in different activities as we continue with our pirate themed role play. They particularly enjoyed dressing up as pirates and pretended to fight the enemies. Some children also pretended to be captains and roared 'Arrrrrr!' In the work shop area, the children enjoyed the sticking shapes activity. Most of them are able to recognise basic shapes such as circle, triangle, square and rectangle. On Thursday, the children had a go at naming their friends. Using a website application, we added pirate and captain costumes to children's photos. We are very pleased to see that most of them are becoming familiar with their friends in class. The highlight of our week was our treasure hunt. We introduced a new friend to everyone called 'Jake' from Neverland. The children helped Jake in finding his golden coins. They spent a good amount of time finding these treasures and were very happy to  spot the golden coins around the Fundino playground.
It has truly been a fun-filled half term in F1X. We are very pleased to see that most of the children are now settled in their school environment and are getting familiar with the class routines. We are looking forward to more exciting activities when we come back from our holidays.

Have a great, restful half term break!

Ahoy! F1 Pirates on board!

F1 pirates have been very busy this week! They enjoyed lots of dressing-up in the pirate ship role-play area and have shown their skills in using the swords to fight off Captain Hook and his crew! The children demonstrated incredible braveness and strength!

In our small-world area, we put up a teepee and the children loved going in and out of it! They also enjoyed looking at each other through the window and they even brought books and toys inside!

In the Workshop area, we have been threading beads, making treasures of necklaces and bracelets! Some children found the activity challenging so we will continue this next week to develop their threading skills and improve their hand-eye coordination.

In the Malleable area, Ms Precious, Ms Christine and the children made sparkly white and yellow playdough. The pirates were very happy to see such treasure! We have also put out boat and ship cutters and the children loved using them to make their own water transport!

In our Investigation area, we put boats and water in the tuff spot. The children used the boats for small-world play and they even added some more resources in it independently.

In the Mark-making area, the children are currently showing an interest in magic slates and we have been encouraging them to draw and ascribe meaning to what they have made. David really enjoyed drawing trucks, buses, cars and ships!

In the Construction area, we have made small pirate standees and we put them on the carpet with bricks. The children have been making towers, houses and ships for the pirates! Gianna and her friends made a tall tower and she said "Wow! Amazing!"

In our Mathematics area, we have been sorting transport counters by colour and kind. Most of the children are now able to name the transport and even the sound they make!

For ICT activities this week, we have been looking at different photos of pirates and their ships. We have also watched 'Peter Pan' and all the children had fun seeing the adventures of Peter Pan, Wendy and her brothers, the lost boys, Captain Hook and the crocodile that Captain Hook dreads the most!

It was another fantastic week in F1! They children are more settled and they have been showing lots of interests in all learning areas! Well done!

Newsletter 03.10.14

It has been a fun and busy week as F1 children engaged in lots of activities. On Monday and Tuesday, we had our book celebration. We had our book parade, snuggle up and ready, story telling and a special visitor- - Mr Adam Bushnell, a book author.
In the classroom, we talked about land transport. Ms Precious and Ms Crislet showed the children different vehicles people use on land such as car, bus, motorbike, bicycle, metro and train. The children enjoyed watching the videos and making transport sounds too! We have also learned a new rhyme called 'Lonely Bus Driver'. The children enjoyed pretending as passengers!
Next week, we will continue to focus on transport. This time, we will talk about water transport such as boat and ship. We might turn our role play area into a pirate ship! Ahoy! :)

Have a restful weekend,
Ms Precious, Ms Crislet and F1X team

Book Celebration Story time

On Tuesday, all EYFS children gathered for story time in F2 classroom. The teachers dressed up as different characters from the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. The children sat beautifully on the chairs and mats. They also listened very well as Ms Alice narrated the story. The children were able to recognise each of the characters in the . Great job everyone! :)
