Snuggle-up and Read

Yesterday, we had another fun activity in F1! We had snuggle-up and read! We all dressed-up in our beautiful pyjamas and gathered on the mat for a story and some treats!

First, Ms Christine read the story of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle. She showed us how a tiny caterpillar ate different food, slept in a cocoon and transformed into a beautiful butterfly! It was amazing!

After the story, we all had some marshmallows and hot chocolate and we loved them! Some children even had 2 small cups of hot chocolate! Delicious indeed!

To cap the activity, we shared books with our friends and read some fantastic stories with our teachers!

What a lovely day we've had in F1! We really love books!

EYFS Book Parade

F1X children came to class yesterday wearing their lovely costumes. We had princesses, fairies, superheroes and more characters from different story books. They children lined up beautifully and paraded in the foyer wearing their lovely costumes. They waved hello to their Mums and Dads and managed to walk nicely back into our classroom. We are very pleased to see that the children enjoyed dressing up for our book celebration. Thank you F1X parents for your continuing support.

Well done everybody! :)

Author Visit

Yesterday, we were very lucky to have met Mr Adam Bushnell, a successful author of children's books from the UK. He came in happy and excited and immediately said 'hello' to everybody. Gianna said "Good morning Mr Edam!" which gave Mr Adam a laugh! He said edam cheese is his favourite anyway so that's fine! He then went on and narrated a fun story using an array of sounds and actions which the children loved. The story was about a dragon who fought with kings and knights but in the end became a gentle and good dragon. All the children enjoyed the way the story was told and even the picture of a dragon that he drew for us! Thank you very much Mr Adam for visiting us! We really enjoyed having you in F1!

F1 children on the GO!

Transport is F1's first class theme. As the children are all sharing an interest in small-world transport, we turned our Role-play area into a city road. This week, our focus is on land transport such as cars, buses and trains. We have been driving around the classroom and even in the sand pit too!

In the Mathematics area, we played with the transport counters and sorting trays. We encouraged children to sort the transport by colour and kind. We also focused on naming the transport and the sounds they make.

In the Workshop area, we placed a big paper in the tuff spot and we made lots of car wheel prints! The children enjoyed looking at the colourful wheel tracks they make everytime they pushed the cars on the paper.

Some new Soft Play Room resources from the UK were added this week. The children had fun building towers, cars and trains using the shape soft blocks. We also played throw and catch using the new sensory balls!

This week has been a great week with the children exploring all the learning areas more confidently. Most of them are settled now and are beginning to make new friends. We are all very pleased with their progress!

Next week, we will have a 2 day Book Celebration. EYFS team will be dressed up in Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar story book characters. As an introduction to the story, we have been reading the story to the children and singing 'There's a Tiny Caterpillar on The Leaf'.

Meet Mr Caterpillar and his favourite snack!

Well done children for a fun-filled week!

Newsletter 19-09

This week:

F1X children had another fun-filled week as they continue to explore the different learning areas and resources.

In the mark making area, the children used black boards and chalks. They have been making random marks such as short lines, long lines, dots and swirls. The role play area has been busy all week as they did lots of pretend cooking, serving and a bit of housekeeping. Some children even dressed up as princesses too! In our investigation area, the children are developing their fine motor skills through scooping dry pasta and filling in the big bowls. The Malleable area is a popular one this week as the children continue to use their hands in moulding different things like transport, food and animals. In small world play, the children have been playing with cars and animals. They have been making different animal sounds and some made transport sounds as well. In the construction area, children have been using both their hands to build towers. In Maths, we sorted basic shapes. The children also busied themselves playing with bubbles, cars and tricycles in the Fundino playground.

We are very pleased to see that most of the children are now beginning to play alongside their friends and teachers. The children are also learning to use basic classroom vocabulary such as 'good morning', 'good bye', 'please'and 'thank you'.

They all did very well this week and deserve a good rest over the  weekend.

Well done everybody!

Have a restful weekend,

Ms Precious and Ms Crislet

F1's Week 3

What a wonderful week we've had in F1! We are very pleased that all the children are now happier and are more active when engaging in different activities. They have begun to settle in to the class' routines and are getting more familiar with the environment and the adults around them. Well done children! We are very positive that this year will be a fun and fruitful year  with all of you!

Yesterday, we celebrated Moon Festival with a carousel of activities which include face painting, play dough, head band making, lantern decorating, dragon dancing and ball games. The children came in wearing their gorgeous Ao Dais and they looked amazing! The parents' involvement was also greatly appreciated. The children felt happier and more confident as they shared their experiences with them.

From all of us in EYFS, we would like to say a big thank you to all the parents who took part in our simple celebration. We truly appreciate  your contribution to the success of this event!

Lastly, we are very proud of all our teaching assistants for organising this fantastic celebration. Thank you teachers!

Here are the photographs from yesterday's event.

SOME REMINDERS:

- Next week will be the 4th week of our staggered start. The whole class will be in together from 8-11am. Parents/carers are encouraged to drop their children in class then say goodbye. This will help the children's settling in.

- All children should bring in their hats, water bottles and extra set of clothes. Please label your child's belongings to avoid any mix ups.

Thank you very much!

Have a great weekend!

Kind Regards;
Ms Crislet, Ms Precious, Ms Thuy, Ms Christine, Ms Hoang and Ms Trinh

Moon Festival Celebration

Dear Parents,

On Thursday 11th September, EYFS will be celebrating Moon Festival from 8-9 in the morning. Children are encouraged to wear Vietnam’s traditional costume (Ao Dai) on this day. There will be a carousel of activities and F1 parents are expected to join their children in trying different activities.

As we are still on staggered start (in 2 groups), may we ask all the children in Group B to attend the first session which is from 8-9.30. This will give all the children  equal opportunity to join in the celebration. Again, ALL children should be in class at 8am on Thursday 11th September. Home time will be at 9.30.

Thank you very much!

Kind Regards;
Ms Crislet and Ms Precious

Week 2 in F1X unit

This week,  Ms Crislet, Ms Precious and the other teachers are very pleased to see that the children are gradually settling in to their new environment without their carers in the classroom. They did a great job in exploring the different resources and are beginning to play independently. Fundino playground and the soft play room are popular to most of the children. They have been engaging in various physical activities such as running, jumping and climbing. This week, we also sang lots of songs during circle time and used the IWB to play nursery rhymes. They enjoyed singing our 'hello song', 'the wheels on the bus', 'hungry flying dragon', 'ten little people' and 'row row row your boat'. It has been another fun filled week at F1X unit. Well done everybody! :)

Please be reminded that children are still on stagerred entry next week:

Lovely Day! Bubbly Day!

F1X children had such an amazing time playing with bubbles in the Fundino playground. Ms Crislet made a huge tray of bubbles using soap, baking powder, cornflour and water. The children took turns in using the hoops to make huge bubbles. They had to use their bodies and move their arms up and down to be able to make big ones! Some children in the class also stood at the middle of the tray and were trapped for a little while inside the soap bubble. In the Fundino playground, we have been using the words wet, slimy and sticky. A bubbly day indeed. Well done everybody!
