This week has been a fantastic week in F1X! The children have engaged in a variety of activities to support Waste week and Green day.
For Waste Week, we taught the children the importance of limiting wastes and recycling. In line with this, we have focused on junk modelling in our workshop area this week. We gathered different materials such as used boxes, plastic pipes, newspaper, magazines and more. The children worked together in groups and made zoo tram/train! They had fun in painting all materials and in helping Ms Christine put them together.
For Green Day, we all came in school wearing our green clothes and talked about caring for the world. As you may know, we have been encouraging everybody to use their water bottles at all times and, this week, all plastic cups have been kept to support this effort. In F1, we have made a pledge of always using our water bottles. Posters of different pledges are now posted on the world picture in the foyer.
We also had a 'Switch-off hour' and turned everything off for the whole hour. The children didn't mind having no lights and ACs on and carried on playing. Most of them had a go at playing a variety of musical instruments and dancing at the same time. They were all very graceful!
In our maths area, we have introduced basic shapes such as circle, square, rectangle and triangle. We are now looking at covering another strand from our Maths learning objectives which is for children to begin categorising objects according to properties such as shape or size. We have been using the Button Sorting Centre and have been encouraging children to sort the buttons according to shape and at the same time, describe their size. Next term, we will be doing more activities to support this and will focus on other learning objectives too.
For our music session this week, Mr Robbie gave all the children a chance to play the boom whackers. He taught us how to make soft and loud sounds and even taught us colours using them. We had so much fun!
For literacy this week, we have read 'Itchy Bear' by Neil Griffiths, 'Handa's Surprise' by Eileen Browne and 'Elmer' by David McKee. The children enjoyed the story sacks and all the props we used for the stories.
A big well done to everybody for a great last week of term 2! It has been wonderful to see all children making progress and enjoying themselves as they play with their friends and teachers this term!
We would like to say thank you as well to all parents for all your help and cooperation this term. Looking forward to another term with you and your children!
Have a lovely holiday!
Kind Regards;
Ms Crislet, Ms Precious and the F1 Team
