F1's Fun and Healthy Week

What a great week we've had in F1! As we celebrate 'Healthy Living Week', we have done a variety of activities to promote healthy eating and physical fitness.

To promote physical fitness, we started our days this week with 'Zumba'. Ms Christine have been teaching us how to move our bodies to different beats. All the children enjoyed this activity and we are thinking of introducing Yoga next time to keep us strong, healthy and ready for our day in school.

This week, we have also started using the big playground to have a go at different games that we will play on the EYFS Activity day. We tried throwing javelins and playing football too. Next week, we will try jumping over hurdles and playing relays.

-In the role-play area, we have made a hospital role-play where the children can pretend to be doctors, nurses and patients. It is amazing how the children take on roles very seriously and the language they use are fantastic too! They have been using words such as 'medicine', 'sick', 'fever', 'broken arm/leg', 'vaccine' and 'hospital' as they play with each other. Some children are very particular in taking care of the sick babies. They give them milk, change their clothes and make sure that they have their blankets on whilst they are asleep. Very sweet children!

-As part of our community project, we have donated the money that we got from our Family Morning's bake sale to ARC (Animal Rescue and Care). The money will be used to care for a rescued dog named Ricky. ARC visited our class and showed Ricky's photo and even brought with them two lovely dogs. We had a go at giving them gentle strokes! ARC is very thankful for our generosity. We hope Ricky will find a home soon!

-Our window display at the moment showcases all the children's artwork with fruits and vegetables. We did stamping and printing of an orange, apple, celery, tomato, lime, lady finger and carrot. Most of the children were able to recognise and name the fruits and vegetables they used for their artwork.

-For ICT, we have been learning how to use the IWB wand. We have been playing the game 'Make a Pizza' on the 'busythings' website. Children are expected to drag the ingredients to the pizza dough by pressing the button all the way to where they want the ingredient to be placed.

-This morning, we also had our very first 'Splash Day'. We made big bubbles using hoops, played with water balloons and swam together. We splashed water at each other, made bubbles in the water and even tried swimming with our faces in the water. It was a great way to develop the children's water confidence and explore what they can do at this stage.

Fantastic week indeed! A big well done to all the children for making this week a fun and exciting one!

Newsletter 23.01.2015

It's been another busy week in F1X as we continue talking about families.

In our role play area, some children are taking the roles of their Mums, Dads, brothers, sisters and babies in their families. They have also been particularly good in looking after our babies in the home corner. The children have been learning how to carry the babies properly and giving them milk and food--they are also talking about their homes. In our construction area, the children are using language of size such as big, small, tall and short. In our workshop area, they continue to learn about shapes whilst making a collage of their own house. In Maths, the children are learning to count in sequence from 1-10. Our book area has also been popular this week as we added more fiction and non fiction books about families. The children also watched 'Goldiclocks and the Three Bears', 'The Three Little Pigs' and 'The Crood'.

On Wednesday, the children went up to the multi-purpose room for our school photographs. We are very pleased to see that most of our children are confident to show their beautiful smiles to our school photographer, Mr Johnny Woo. The children waited sensibly in the room as we took three different shots-- one formal photo, one informal photo and their individual ones.

Thursday has been an exciting and fun day for all of us as we went over to BVIS for our annual Teddy Bears' Picnic. The children had fun doing a range of physical and art activities. The activities include an obstacle course, football, hoola hooping, colouring teddies and a lot more! Thank you parents for entrusting your children to our care.

This week, we also started rehearsing our dance for the children's Tet performance. We are pleased to see that the children are enjoying our rehearsals and have been saying 'one more!'. We all look forward to this wonderful celebration.

Next week will be our 'Healthy Living Week'. We will focus on learning about eating the right food and taking care of our body. We will also be doing more physical activities in the classroom and outdoors.

It has been another fun filled and busy week for all F1X children. They all deserve a good rest.

Enjoy the photos and have a restful weekend!

Ms Precious and Ms Crislet

Fantastic First Week!

What a great term start we've had in F1 Unit! The children came back very happy and with lots of stories to share with their friends about their Christmas holidays! Ms Precious, Ms Crislet, Ms Christine and Ms Thuy also shared their holiday photos in class and the children had fun looking at them.

This week, we have also welcomed 6 new children in our class and we are looking forward to having great times with them this year in F1!

For our Maths Area, we have focused on colours, size and patterns this week. We have used the compare bears and recognised small, medium and big bears. We have also followed patterns according to colour and size.

For our role-play, we have been noticing how the children are showing interest in cooking and how they have been taking on mummy and daddy roles. To support these interests, we have created a home corner for them to explore and we will be focusing on 'Family and Homes' next week.

For ICT, Mr Tue still guides the children in using the iPad. He has introduced some Apps that children can play with and they have been responding really well with everything that Mr Tue tells them.

Well done children for a fantastic start!
